It all started with an email sent to Ken on January 15 asking Ken to consider a teaching position and vice principal position in Edmonton and a request for him to apply.
Out of no where this came up and since then it has been a bit of a whirlwind. Coffee date with the principal in Edmonton, submitting an application and getting references to having an interview and then a long 4 days of waiting until he was offered the position. It is now a little over a month later and our brains have not shut off since. The last few years we have tossed around whether or not a move would be good for Ken's career and for our family. It is always good to grow both in your job and in your faith life. Now we are trying to make a decision for Tuesday Feb. 25.
First of all PICS is a Reformed Christian School in Edmonton which is 5-6 hours from Coaldale. It is double the size of our school and is growing. Ken's brother Dwayne and his wife Trixie live in Edmonton with their six kids so we have seen the school before. Ken's sister Denise has also taught there when they lived in Edmonton and really enjoyed it.
After the interview and offer we asked for one week to give an answer. What a week that was...
I used to be so spontaneous and loved adventure. That is still in me somewhat but all of a sudden there are a lot more factors, Ken leaving where he has lived 36 years of his life, 5 kids, speech, a house to sell and buy, economy, current school's needs versus needs of school hiring, extended family, friendships, church community, lifestyle, reliable vehicles... you name it, we've thought about it. We have asked tough questions, to each other, to the school boards of both schools and we have asked advice of professionals, family, friends and most importantly God.
Once we had all the answers we could possibly ask about, we prayed lots and left it in God's hands.
Even the morning Ken had to give an answer we still weren't 100% sure what we were going to do. Receiving emails non-stop this week from both Edmonton and Coaldale really made us flip flop back and forth but when the day came, the afternoon to be exact, Ken felt in his heart that we were being called to Edmonton. He let all the involved parties know of our decision and we have been absorbing ever since.
It's really quite exciting but a little scary too!

I can hear your excitement and that little bit of apprehension, which I think are both part of a big move. We are excited for Ken to take on this new challenge with his career, and for you as a family taking on this new adventure. You know I'm one for adventure! ;) We'll be praying for you all as you prepare and get ready for moving day; and with settling into a new community and place. When do you move?
Although we are very sad to see you leave, we pray that God will bless you in this new and exciting opportunity! Our loss is Edmonton's gain!
